ABOUT HELEN PLATANIA
Helen is an exhibiting & comissioned mixed media artist based in Melbourne where she works from her home studio. Inspired by the female face, she is a lover of exploring the corners of the mind and the things you find there. Born in Wales and emigrating to Australia as a teenager she followed a creative path through jewellery design, mosaic & mixed media painting.
Helen has previously held an ‘Artist in Residence’ position at the Maharishi School in 2012, and currently runs weekly creative classes for both children and adults at ‘Art Angels & Crafty Cats’.
Helen is a passionate advocate for sharing her knowledge in the local community. She regularly works with local council on Arts events such as ‘Banyule Kids Arty Farty Fest ‘and has successfully obtained a community grant in 2015 to facilitate ‘Creative Time Out’ – an eight-week art program for mothers of Autistic children - experiencing first hand the ability art has to bring people together with the encouragement of community support.
Helen has been an active member of TAM (A Diamond Valley group of female visual artists) since 2012 and has held the Sub Committee Leader position within the group for 2014/15/17.
